The latest post is presented differently to draw attention to it. The font is a little bigger and it has this slightly brighter, more colourful background. This only happens on the homepage.
Featured here is an example of a nice eye catching image to use. It’s from this fantastic set of skating shots by wZa HK on Flickr. It’s best to use images that are no wider than 500px and float/align them left or right, then when they shunt down to the lower posts, the text still wraps round them nicely.
To see what an image like this will look like when it gets into a regular post, take a look at the permalink and the archive page.

» Photo gallery
Here’s an example of the built in Wordpress gallery in action. These are photos by the amazing Oladios, whose photos suit this style of design down to a tee.
- All my life
- But who is the master?
- It’s there that no one will stare
I have no idea how she gets these shots, but they are oozing with atmosphere, some are a little creepy and others are quite funny. Visit her website or see her Flickr photos for more. Wordpress has some crazy css embedded in the include files for the gallery, so a few styles are over-ridden in this theme’s css.

» Using a smaller image
The 500px wide image up the top looks good, but using a 300px wide image can look a little neater when it gets pushed down into regular styled posts. This post uses a 300px image so you can see the difference. But of course – it’s up to you what you do.
Hey there where ya goin’, not exactly knowin’, who says you have to call just one place home. He’s goin’ everywhere, B.J. McKay and his best friend Bear. He just keeps on movin’, ladies keep improvin’, every day is better than the last. New dreams and better scenes, and best of all I don’t pay property tax. Rollin’ down to Dallas, who’s providin’ my palace, off to New Orleans or who knows where. Places new and ladies, too, I’m B.J. McKay and this is my best friend Bear.
